"When the state NAACP meets in Cobb County beginning today, it will talk about the high rate of black males in Georgia prisons and consider a response to Gov. Sonny Perdue's proposal to link SAT scores to the HOPE scholarship.
State NAACP President Walter Butler said the 61st annual convention, which runs through Sunday, will discuss everything from minority education to job training and voter registration. Butler said one of the most pressing issues is the high incarceration rate of black men.
In August, 61 percent of male inmates in Georgia prisons were non-white, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. "
