Going to be a bad year.....
Bush troops get marching orders for '04:
"'We will build the largest grass-roots network in the history of the state of Georgia,' said Reed, once chairman of the state GOP and now Bush campaign coordinator for the Southeast. Reed is looking for 30,000 volunteers ultimately, or one for every 50 votes Bush wants"
Participants, who represent the core of GOP leadership in North Georgia, were schooled in the proper responses to questions posed by reporters -- particularly on the topic of the the $200 million the Bush campaign intends to raise. The suggested answers: (a) Democrats will raise more money, and (b) it's an indication that more than 900,000 voters like what Bush is doing.
Like last year, the organization will focus on the final 72 hours of the contest. The smallest GOP voting niches -- such as Hispanics and African-Americans -- will be cultivated, as well as larger targets, such as evangelicals.
"We can't underestimate the strength of the opposition. We won't underestimate the strength of the opposition," said Bill Reynolds of Lilburn, a public relations man who signed up for yard sign duty.
